Designed as a torpedo bomber for the United States Navy, the Douglas TBD-1A Devastator was the most advanced aircraft in service for the force.

Designed as a torpedo bomber for the United States Navy, the Douglas TBD-1A Devastator was the most advanced aircraft in service for the force. Flying for the first time in 1935 and entering active duty by 1937, the type was expected to take the role of offence in the event of heavy strikes. Featuring a crew of three and a powerful Pratt & Whitney R-1830 Twin Wasp engine, there was much hope for the Devastator to perform in combat. Unfortunately, the quick pace of aircraft development and the surprise attack by the Japanese on Pearl Harbor showed the TBD-1A was no match for its opposition. In the battle of midway almost every Devastator was wiped out by the Japanese fleet, with all remaining aircraft pulled out of service immediately to be replaced by the new Grumman TBF Avenger. Model kit replica includes photo etched pieces, engraved panel lines, waterslide decals and a detailed instruction booklet, with even the tiniest details carefully reproduced. Measures 12.75”l with a 18.5” wingspan at 1:32 scale. Requires glue for assembly.

·         Features high quality rivets, panel lines, and surface detailing that reflects the true TBD-1A Devastator.

·         Includes detailed photo-etched parts for the cockpit which are more realistic than plastic pieces and high-quality waterslide decals.

·         Comes with a detailed instruction manual for simplified assembly.

·         Requires glue and other small tools, such as pliers or tweezers for most detailed finish.
