Developed from the Northrop YF-5A Freedom Fighter, the T-38 Talon is a reliable, low cost, and low hassle aircraft used in a variety of aerial roles.

Developed from the Northrop YF-5A Freedom Fighter, the T-38 Talon is a reliable, low cost, and low hassle aircraft used in a variety of aerial roles. With a traditional swept wing and tricycle landing gear configuration, advanced avionics, and bombing or gunsight practice systems. Across decades of operation, the more than 1,100 T-38s have maintained an excellent safety record and sent pilots on their way to advanced fighter jet operation.

Powered by the reliable General Electric J85-5A engines, the T-38 only needs around 2,300 ft to leave the ground, able to reach 30,000 ft within just a minute. It also boasts excellent maneuvering capability, gentle handling, and numerous redundant or automatic systems. Just like its military siblings, the Talon put its pilots first, in an era where aircraft were often hard to fly properly. Internally, the cockpit was meticulously designed in a way that provides both the instructor and trainee excellent visibility. The backseat was over 10 inches higher than the unobstructed front, leading to teachers feeling like they were in the front seat instead. Each position also had access to the automatically scored “no-drop” bomb system in the later B variant, or practice gun-sights in the C variant.

Based from Air Force Plant 42, this T-38A Talon registered as #65-10363 was flown over Palmdale, California, in the mid-1980s. Featuring the NASA camouflage and the decorative SR-71 decal on the tail, this aircraft is among the many to be operated as a test platform within the classified walls of Plant 42, contributing to either NASA or USAF operations. Die-Cast version has an accurate paint scheme, etched panel lines, pad printed decals, optional landing gear and display stand to show the model in flight. Also includes an attachable press-fit fuel tank. Measures 7.75”l with a 4.25” wingspan at 1:72 scale.

  • Antennas, reflective lights, and surface details have been carefully added to the model.
  • Includes deployed or retracted landing gear and display stand to show the aircraft in flight.
  • Comes with an attachable fuel tank which simply press-fits into place.
