Improving upon the venerable F/A-18 airframe, the advanced “Super Hornet” took on an improved shape, with sharpened surfaces, wider wingspan and lengthened fuselage.

Improving upon the venerable F/A-18 airframe, the advanced “Super Hornet” took on an improved shape, with sharpened surfaces, wider wingspan and lengthened fuselage. This major redesign may have altered the exterior look, but it still remains one of the longest lasting and capable aircraft across the globe. Protecting dozens of nations from enemy air or ground forces with advanced weaponry and sensor equipment, the formidable Super Hornet pulls up to 7.5Gs in a dogfight. Capable of runway or carrier operation, the F/A-18 is prepared for any needs, whether they be strike forces, air superiority, or combined engagements.

Succeeding the EA-6B Prowler, the new “Growler” is based on this improved F/A-18F Super Hornet airframe, implementing electronic warfare systems that are run by the backseat Electronic Warfare Officer. Connected through this system are the numerous underwing and wing-tip pylons, which hold the external jammer pods, with more recently the “NGJ” Next Generation Jammers that replace the previous ALQ-99 tactical system. Their task is to provide harmful interference which can facilitate a safe attack run, provide successful withdrawal, or create a no-fly zone above combat areas. Jammer pods can successfully disable enemy missiles, radio, and sensor equipment by searching and transmitting power frequencies, drowning out any competing transmissions and causing interference that takes down computer systems.

Operating as one of the mainline electronic attack squadrons, the VAQ-142 “Grey Wolves” currently fly the advanced EA-18G Growler. Transitioning from the predecessor EA-6B, this attachment serves out of their home-port of NAS Whidbey Island, or onboard the USS Gerald R. Ford aircraft carrier. Die-Cast version has an accurate paint scheme, etched panel lines, pad printed decals, optional landing gear and display stand. Also includes various types of ordinance options, including the NGJ and ALQ-99 jammer pods under the wings and fuselage. Measures 10”l with a 7.75” wingspan at 1:72 scale.

  • Features a high-quality paint scheme, etched panel lines and pad printed decals that reflect the VAQ-142 “Grey Wolves” livery.
  • Antennas, reflective lights, and surface details have been carefully added to the model.
  • Includes deployed or retracted landing gear and display stand to show the aircraft in flight.
  • Comes with attachable NGJ and ALQ-99 jammer pods which simply press-fit into place.
  • Measures 10”l with a 7.75" wingspan at 1:72 Scale.
  • Highly collectible and officially licensed.
