The DC-7 was Douglas’ last major piston engine-powered transport aircraft.
The DC-7 was Douglas’ last major piston engine-powered transport aircraft. Built-in 1953 - 1958, the DC-7 entered the American Airlines flagship service on its historic New York-Los Angeles route, becoming the first airliner to offer nonstop transcontinental service in both directions, flying westbound against the prevailing winds. The particular aircraft used to create this collector's piece began its career with American Airlines in 1956, eventually being converted to a freighter in later years, most notably with Ortner Air Service in Ohio. Known aircraft collector Walter Soplata acquired the cockpit and other fuselage sections during the 1970s from the Ortners. Not recommended for children under 8 years of age. This product contains chemical-based paint which may cause respiratory irritation if ingested or inhaled in large quantities. Keep out of the mouth. This limited edition PlaneTag is numbered and comes attached to a display card. Because each PlaneTag is made from actual P-40B metal, each PlaneTag is unique.
