The Concorde was destined to be a new era of travel, intended to reach supersonic speeds with lots of passengers onboard, while cutting the times it took across the world. The aircraft first flew in 1969, but it would take over 7 years to finally make it into service, citing a troublesome development. The first flights of the production versions occurred on a cold morning in 1976, where both France and the UK each sent a Concorde on its way.

The aircraft itself is designed with a sleek, thin fuselage and massive delta wing, necessary for the aircraft to traverse supersonic and low speed flight in a single package. Its four afterburning Rolls Royce Olympus engines push the aircraft to a maximum speed of 1354mph, or Mach 2 at over 60,000ft. Max takeoff weight was over 400,000 lbs (half of it being fuel) with up to 120 passengers, carrying them to a maximum range of around 4,500 miles. Crew included two pilots, as well as a flight engineer who would manage the systems onboard.

After nearly 3 decades of service, the Concorde was retired in 2003, due to noise concerns and a very expensive bill for each flight. Looking back, it is a shame to see such a radical aircraft be out of service so soon, but it has not left the minds of the aviation community. This specific model, registered as F-BVFB, was first delivered in 1976 and flew until 1990 where it was placed in temporary storage. In 1997 it was finally back in open air, being first to take flight again in 2001 with modifications after another Concorde had crashed in Paris, France. F-BVFB currently resides at the Sinsheim Auto & Technik Museum, located in Germany, with the rear access door open so visitors can explore the inside. The Die-Cast version features etched panel lines, accurate paint scheme and decals to reflect the real F-BVFB Concorde. Measures 12”l with a 5” wingspan at 1:200 scale.
