The McDonnell Douglas MD-82 is a enhanced and modernized version that started its life as the DC-9, which was first begun in 1965 as a twin engine, rear powered airliner.

The McDonnell Douglas MD-82 is a enhanced and modernized version that started its life as the DC-9, which was first begun in 1965 as a twin engine, rear powered airliner. The DC-9-80, named for its expected release date, first launched in 1977 and began production for its first customers, Swissair and Austrian Airlines. Both airlines received their first aircraft in 1980, beginning the journey of the type. This specific model, the MD-82, is the modernized version of the original DC-9-80/MD-80 and is operated by USAir, seating 143 passengers and with a range of almost 3000 miles, at a cruising speed of 542 mph. This MD-82 was delivered to Aeromexico in December 1981, just after its first flight in September of the same year. Understandably, this version features some changes compared to its predecessors, designed to improve its performance and capacity. These include a lengthened fuselage, enlarged control surfaces, modernized interior with more seats and new, more powerful engines. The improved version of the JT8D, variant 217C, produces an additional 5% thrust over the original, which assists with the added weight and complexity of the extended and improved MD-82. This die-cast version itself measures up at 1:400 scale, which equates to 4.5”l, 3.5” in wingspan, and 1”h, with high quality details, scale panel lines, and accurate paintwork of Aeromexico #N1003X.

• Model includes high quality scale and panel lines true to the original aircraft.
• Accurate paint scheme, with pad printed details instead of decals.
• Model measures 4.5”l x 3.5” wingspan x 1”h.
• Features pre-installed landing gear for scale display.
• Highly collectible and officially licensed by McDonnell Douglas.
